MAY GARDEN

May Garden Villa is a modern two-story ADU in Oakland that melds a system of kinetic glass doors and windows to create an indoor outdoor backyard oasis. The main glass entrance slides open towards the rear wall and an awning-style window opens upwards – creating a free-standing island at the corner of the outdoor bar. A swim spa, outdoor seating, one spacious lofted bedroom, a full bathroom, raised garden beds, and a dramatic roof overhang completes the two story backyard unit that blends into the surrounding landscaping.

As with many other ADUs in DDB’s portfolio, May Garden establishes an endpoint to the client’s yard. Once the boundary is established, it allows the exterior space between the home and newly built structure to become a second living room and energized space for gathering.
