SPARC-IT-PLACE

SPARC-IT-PLACE is a community-oriented space designed in collaboration with David Baker Architects and design-built by Design Draw Build Inc. Design Draw Build participated in a year and a half long community led design process involving community meetings and design charrettes that were vital in establishing key architectural elements of the project.  Located in West Oakland, the vacant lot purchased by a developer will allow for temporary and flexible space that will be activated by community markets, cultural events, small business, and people!

In 2016, the East Bay Asian Local Development Corporation (EBALDC), hired DDB to manage the design-build of Sparc-it-Place, an outdoor event space with a stage and community market at the historic California Hotel in Oakland, CA. The space was built to engage local residents for community-oriented events, such as First Fridays and local social-mission driven design charrettes. Vendor stalls were built out of construction scaffolding, the seating/play elements were constructed out of shipping pallets, planters were built with salvaged redwood.
