PIEDMONT VISTA
Perched on a ridge in Oakland’s Montclair neighborhood, this 6,135-square-foot family home blends modernity with childhood memories of West Sonoma County ranches and New England colonial-style homes. Design Draw Build built a tri-generational dream house that complements their family’s lifestyle: a place to relax, gather with loved ones, and watch their kids grow. With expansive views of the San Francisco Bay, the project goal was to create an anchor between the indoor and outdoor spaces, further highlighting the newly built 458-square-foot pool house and the tiered landscape experience. . Walking down the steps leads you to the curated backyard retreat that overlooks an infinity pool, a pool house, and stunning views of the bay.
The design takes full advantage of its panoramic views with expansive glass doors and windows that tether the home’s indoor and outdoor spaces. Originally planned with strict orthogonal structures, the discovery of large boulders on site inspired a more organic layout. The use of rocks and boulders creates a natural, flowing landscape that elevates the home's design. The pool house creates a sheltered moment with an indoor-outdoor roof, outdoor kitchen, outdoor shower, and bathroom anchoring the house and the landscape together. Through a thoughtful, process-driven approach, Design Draw Build delivered a design that honors the home’s past while looking to the future, uniting fragmented spaces, celebrating its breathtaking site, and embracing sustainable practices to ensure it remains a cherished abode for generations to come.
