GARDEN VIEW ADU
This ADU is nestled into an abundant permaculture garden the clients have cultivated in their many decades living in the main house. We prioritized indoor-outdoor living and seamlessly-integrated sustainability features, such as a rooftop solar array, passive solar shading devices, a highly efficient building envelope and rainscreen system, and energy-efficient fixtures and appliances.
Despite the small footprint, the efficient space layout and establishment of long lines of sight make it feel open and airy. The ground floor opens up to the garden and a small inverted dormer roof deck provides views of the surrounding hillsides.
While they collaborated with a contractor, the project was largely owner-built. We worked closely with them to develop the details and documentation to make construction straightforward.
