Crombie St. Fit-up – Burlington, VT
DDB worked intimately with the client who is the owner of a number of local restaurants and had a very tight budget to renovate an 1890s townhouse Burlington, Vermont. When walls were removed, the rough-sawn studs from the wall were solid-nailed together to create the bar with spaces left between studs and back-lit behind translucent glass. Original wood floors were refinished and clear-coated steel thresholds became the uniting elements between spaces and different, previously constructed layers. Black slate, stainless steel counter-tops, perforated aluminum, and salvaged beams from a torn-down farmhouse finished the new design language of the spaces.
