CURRENT OPEN POSITIONS
DDB Inc is seeking a resourceful, and ambitious architect in training to join our team. The Job Captain reports directly to the Principal in the architecture studio with support from Project Managers.
THE ROLE
As a Job Captain you are a key member of the studio team. You will be working on multiple projects throughout various phases of the design process. The ideal candidate is an individual who is curious, resourceful, eager to learn. You are an effective communicator who listens and contributes to a creative design dialogue.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Taking architectural projects from “Contract to Close,” with oversight from the Principal.
- Thoughtfully pursue multiple projects simultaneously, utilizing the skills of your teammates when needed, and ensuring their timely completion.
- Attending the weekly Design Studio Meeting on Monday mornings, arriving prepared to discuss progress to date, and that upcoming weeks’ goals.
- Preparing architectural drawings using AutoCAD, Revit, Rhino, and Sketchup.
- Reaching out regularly for redlining from other studio members.
- In turn, providing editing and revisions for other studio members when requested.
- Working with our primary renderer, to develop project imagery and ensure that it meets client’s expectations.
- Creating complete sets of floor plans per instruction or per customer specification in accordance with internal drafting standards.
- Coordinating with outside consultants and facilitating very clear communication between multiple parties (ie. has the Title24 consultant received all of the new drawings that include the Structural Engineers comments).
- Revising architectural plans as marked and thoroughly communicate to team members that are affected by any changes
- Successfully present plans and expedite permits through Building and Planning Departments.
- Tracking the progress of all project submittals with local jurisdictions.
- Responding to city comments with input from the Principal.
- Meeting with the Billing team to review your projects’ contracts, billable hours, and budgets.
- Learning additional software when necessary on a reasonable timeline.
EXPERIENCE & QUALIFICATIONS
- The ability to work calmly under pressure, complete deadlines, switch priorities as needed, and have an eye for details.
- Have 4-8 years of home-building related experience
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in Architecture or Drafting/Design
- Valid California driver’s license
- Advanced computer skills
- Solid written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills. Must be able to communicate verbally and in writing with clients, staff, and the Principal.
- Perform accurate, consistent, and detail-oriented work
- Highly motivated, be a go-getter, willing to stay late to meet a deadline
- Maintain regular attendance and punctuality relative to a daily work schedule is required – setting the standard for the office design team

THE ROLE
The Construction Project Engineer is a core member of our Construction Management team. The PE will assist with all aspects of the estimating, bidding, negotiation processes. You will assist in project development and managing the build team. This is a pivotal role providing support to in-house construction operations and project management.
The ideal candidate will have experience in project management, estimating, bidding, negotiation as well as experience in the construction industry. We are looking for an organized, analytical, well versed in office/in the field communicator who is go-getter, problem solver, and a team player to join our growing construction management team.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Perform detailed, thorough take offs and bid package creation
- Conduct pre-bid investigations, site-visits
- Provide accurate and complete estimates to allow maximum efficiency and cost control
- Ability to read drawings, specifications, scopes, schedules and related documentation to have full understanding of the project
- Build component based estimates, ensuring all required items are included for entire scope of work
- Manage time to handle multiple bids, requests, client communications
- Establish relationships with vendors and subcontractors
- Solicit estimates from vendors and subcontractors. Review estimates for accuracy and appropriate pricing.
- Reward project work orders to subcontractors and vendors
- Maintain project records: organized files, contracts, bids, documents
- Assist Senior Construction Project Manager with project management, safety implementation, subcontractor management, maintaining project budgets
- Support construction foremen in the field. Act as a reference for construction questions. Assist with procurement of materials.
- Maintain professional relationships with colleagues, contractors, subs, vendors, architects, engineers
- Assist on project close out procedures (warranties/guarantees)
- Work with design team to facilitate successful implementation of project building plans
- Communicate with prospective customers to discuss project pricing and value engineering opportunities
EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS
- 2+ years of experience of overall project management and estimating
- BA in Construction Management, Engineering, Business Administration or related field
- 2+ years Experience in residential construction industry in the Bay Area
- Knowledge of principles and practices of construction
- Experience in Architecture or Design-Build preferred
- Proficient with BuilderTrend or Procore software (or related construction software)
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, blueprints, and specifications
- Experience with residential construction and unique boutique construction
- Knowledge of Cal-OSHA standards and safety compliance
- Capable of lifting 50 lbs or more, climb ladders, reach overhead, squat, crawl
- Acute distance vision, close up vision, and depth perception
- Driver’s license and clean driving record required
- Excellent administrative skills, organized, detail-oriented, file management

The Project Manager – Architect (PM–A) is a core member of the studio and design team. The PM-A is an individual who listens and contributes to a creative design dialogue, and who likes to experiment with new ideas and materials. You will participate in leading the studio, project development, delegating tasks to team members, and client communications.
Successful candidates in this role will be able to take direction, work independently, and provide structured guidance to our intrepid and ambitious junior staff. The Project Manager is a team player and who takes responsibility for project delivery. Curiosity, resourcefulness & self-motivation are essential. The PM–A reports directly to the Principal in the Architecture studio with support from other Job Captains, Designers, and Construction Managers.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Management of complete architectural projects, including document control, client interaction, and construction administration.
- Ensure project deliverables are submitted on time to the client, and timeline is met
- Oversee teams of in-house staff, consultants, and vendors to complete projects.
- Skillfully design and draft architectural documents needed for every phase of a project, from Feasibility and Schematic Design through Construction Administration.
- Feasibility research and code reviews for architectural and construction projects.
- Facilitation of permits and other municipal approvals.
- Development of project presentation materials with the support of design staff, including finished project renderings and diagrams.
- Coordination with construction managers and site staff to facilitate construction processes.
- Supporting the Principal in supervision of design staff.
- Lead the design team of 8-10 designers, junior architects, and job captains
- Managing oversight of in-house standards and quality control processes to improve level of project documentation
- Strong focus on the development of construction details
EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS
- 6- 12 years of experience in an architecture firm required
- BArch or MArch Required
- California Experience Required
- Leadership Position in CA-based firm preferred
- Proficiency in AutoCad, Revit, & Adobe Creative Suite
- California Building code knowledge preferred
- Driver’s license and clean driving record required
- Excellent administrative skills, organized, detail-oriented, file management
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both oral and written
- Able to work independently, prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines
